With a long tradition of shaping the future, Heidelberg University, Germany´s oldest University, sees itself as an internationally oriented research and teaching institution that offers a rich range of subjects and disciplines.

It acknowledges its responsibility to humanity, society, and nature and is committed to broadening and harnessing its knowledge and skills, in a spirit of open-mindedness and tolerance toward individuals and ideas, for the benefit of future generations.

Students from abroad have the opportunity to study full-time at Heidelberg University or to complete one or more semesters abroad. As a rule, the language of instruction is German, but a number of English-language courses are also offered.

The International Relations Office provides students from abroad a wide range of support and advisory services, such as the Buddy Program, housing, information on health and insurance, financial matters or visas. Within exchange programs, the International Relations Office cooperates especially with the Studierendenwerk (Facility Management Office) to secure rooms in student residences for international exchange students coming to Heidelberg. Students usually stay in single rooms sharing kitchen and bathrooms in groups of 2 – 4, or in dormitories with kitchens and bathrooms on each floor. There is also a small number of single apartments available.
