Kyoto University is a national research university located in Kyoto, Japan. Founded in 1897, it is one of Japan’s former Imperial Universities and the second oldest university in Japan.
Kyoto University is consistently recognized as one of Japan’s leading universities, ranking among the top institutions in Asia and the world.
Guided by its founding principle of “academic freedom,” Kyoto University is currently composed of ten undergraduate faculties, eighteen graduate schools, thirteen research institutes, and twenty-two research and educational centers.
Furthermore, Kyoto University was one of the first three universities designated as a Designated National University by the Japanese government and was selected as a “Top Type” university under the Top Global University Project, reflecting its commitment to internationalization and research excellence.
